Dr. Michael Alexander
Niagara Clinical Research has been involved in clinical
research for over
15 years. Our facility is approximately 90 minutes from Toronto, Ontario and
30 minutes from Buffalo, New York.
We have participated in phase II to phase IV, single and multi-center clinical
research programs, utilizing the latest electronic recording system to allow
for rapid data transmission.
Our patient population is primarily Niagara Peninsula residents, although
some patients come from other areas. We see both adult and pediatric ambulatory
patients and occasionally in - patients at the local hospital. Patients for
our studies come from our clinical practice or from participating local family
physicians , walk-in clinics and the emergency room.
Several clinical laboratories and radiology facilities are located adjacent
to our clinic and access to a -70 degrees C freezer is available. In our
clinic our trained personnel provide patient education and counseling; occasionally
medical students from McMaster Medical Center attend the clinics. There is
a pulmonary function laboratory (spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity
and methacholine challenge) licensed by the Ministry
of Health, Ontario;
a cardiac stress test laboratory and assessment of metabolic rate for nutritional/obesity
management. In addition, an aero-biology sampler is located on the roof for
daily analysis of pollen and mould spores. A short summary (see below) of
our past experience in clinical research will outline our areas of expertise,
although new areas can be discussed with our staff.
Dr. Alexander is a consultant to numerous advisory panels and pharmaceutical
companies and has assisted in the development of research protocols ,writing
manuscripts and presenting the results at local and national meetings.
